Brake issue Posted by Don [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I'm working on a 2000 9-5 that has been sitting for about a year.
The brake pads and rotors were fairly new when the car stopped being used.
The problem is the amount of pressure on the brake pedal needed to bring the car to a stop, forget panic braking, I can't lock up the wheels at all.
I removed all four rotors and gave them a quick cleanup with a disc sander, cleaned and lubed all the pad contact points, as well as the slides, springs are installed correctly.
I was able to push the pistons back into the caliper, but I did not check to see if they extended properly.
One odd thing, the front pads were a bear to reinstall in the caliper, it seemed like they were too fat for the opening, the piston was fully retracted.
The previous owner was pretty good at fluid maintenance, and the brake fluid looks clear.
ABS unit was replaced with a brand new complete unit in early 08.
Suggestions???
