What is a real SAAB Engine?? Posted by Ian Glenday [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Get the 2.3t, real SAAB engine. NM, Douglas Uhlinger, Mon, 25 Mar 2002 19:12:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My first SAAB, a 1959 93b had a two stroke engine made by SAAB but influenced by DKW. Another SAAB I owned had a West German Ford V-4 engine. My next SAAB, a 1968 99 had a Triumph built engine designed by Recaro Engineering in the UK. The current 4 cylinder engine is derived from an improved version of that Triumph engine which Scania (The old truck division of SAAB) took over the production of. This is the SAAB engine that has a great history of strenghth and durabilty. Those of us that have been driving SAABs for many years have faith in the tried and true. The V-6 came along primarily for the folks who can't bear to tell their friends that their $35,000 car only has a 4 cylinder engine Notice that the Aero is powered by a high end version of this proven 4 cylinder engine. This is also one of the most fuel efficient performance cars in production today.
