My new 2002 Aero wagon is black and it really shows the dirt. But man it looks great when its washed. The paint is too new to put a wax/polish on it yet, but I plan to as soon as its four months old. That should bring out the shine even further. Nothing better than a freshly washed & waxed black car!

When deciding on black vs metallic, ask yourself how much time you're willing to spend on keeping the car clean. The extra ~$500 you'll spend on metallic paint may be nothing in comparison to the extra time you spend on keeping a black car in tip-top shape.

In the end for us, it was less an issue of money or even the effort to keep the car clean - we choose black because that was the only color available to us in the car we wanted with manual transmission.

And finally, another tip, especially if you go with black - never let anyone else wash your car except for you. We just got our car back from the service center and I think they must have washed the car with sandpaper! Super fine scratches everywhere. Next time, I'll remember to specify NO WASHING!
