I wrote a while ago about my girl's '99 9-5. Its had ups and downs and then at the end of september, two cylinders suddenly lost power. 158,000 miles, automatic, v6. Compression test reads 65 lbs in cylinders 4 and 6, the rest are normal. Her dad thinks its a stuck valve, two shops reluctantly are suggesting a new motor because of the car's age.
So I started looking for a (new) crate or used motor. The folks at AAA auto parts don't have a 3.0 v6 for mine so they suggested an Opel 3.2 (used int the 2003 Cadillac CTS and in various recent opels overseas), but being in california nobody has a six out there. They haven't done it, and they don't know of any install or physical differences besides reusing the existing spacer, oil pan, new oil cooler, keep an eye on the turbo oil line installation, and a few other miscellaneous parts besides the replacing timing components (if its a used motor).
They've never heard of anyone succeeding because they've never had a chance to swap one and I'm a little skeptical of trying it out for a few reasons (my mechanic might not be too crazy about the idea and Illinois is fussy about emissions for '95 and younger cars)
Any thoughts?
