All of us know what a sport sedan feels like because we drive a 9-5. I too have been looking to replace my 01 9-5. It's been hell trying to find something that drives better, has the features I want, and is affordable.
My wife used to own an Outback. She loved that car. It was very dependable and very, very boring. I concur with all of James comments. I used to loath getting into that drivers seat.
I did recently test drive an 09 Legacy GT with the 2.5L turbo. Very good acceleration, but I couldn't get over how small the interior felt compared to my 01 9-5. Also, despite the engine, it just didn't feel like a sports sedan. Drive a 9-5 for 5 years, I think you know what a sport sedan is supposed to feel like.
I can't comment on the Audi. I haven't been able to overcome my concern over the possible maintenance costs to decide to try one (I don't do my own maintenance).
Good luck.
