DYI SID Repair Posted by couch tour [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Thanks to Jeff in ATL for is SID repair instructions:
http://saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=235558
I was able to fix almost all of my SID display - almost all. I did not, however, use the soldering iron. I placed a small screwdriver about 45° across each connection and struck the screwdriver lightly with a mallet. I backed up the board with piece of hard plastic to ensure I wouldn't crack or otherwise damage the board. The intention was to deform the aluminum wire on the ribbon cable enough to cause it to make good contact with the copper on the board. It worked quite well.
I'm still missing a few pixels in the center area, but I think it was because I didn't remove the small foam backer on the back side of the board - allowing the board to give a little too much when I was striking the other side. I'm sure I could go back in and fix them, but this was good enough for me - and quite free and very quick and easy.
