The change in the calculated mileage may be related to the tire's construction, but it surely related to the rolling circumference. The problem is the car calculates the "miles" in miles per gallon using the odometer.
My old snows were slightly smaller than the summer tires because it changed the odometer calibration. This made the mileage jump 10%. However, it was not real. Check to see if your odometer is correct by using a GPS or mile markers.
Drive Safe,
Joe
