The dealer's service dept works it out with Saab if it is work covered under warranty. Saab does not do the same if you go to an independent. However, if you have something that the dealer has tried and tried to get right but just can't, a call to Saab Customer Service with all the details may change that for that instance, but that is just a guess on my part.
A local independent svc shop told me the above earlier this week.
They also re-affirmed that you can have an independent do maintenance (10,000 mile service for example) and it does not void your warranty as long as they can prove that they did the same thing the dealer would've done, meaning follow the checklist. Good luck- JerryC
