Man that was a nail biter.
The very first V6 T-belt I did, which was the NG900 2.5L, took a long time and when I was done, I had no compression in most cylinders.
I thought for sure I had done something wrong and nicked the valves but what had happened was that when checking and double checking the settings, rotating the engine back and forth, I had pumped up the lifters with oil so valves were standing open.
That engine has some strange dual oil pressure relief system and rotating the engine backwards would force oil up into the head and lifters.
I was just about to rip the heads off and declare defeat when I decided to keep cranking over and slowly very slowly one cylinder after the other started to build up compression when the lifters would bleed down and the engine finally started.
The next one I had a similar experience but not as severe since I did move the engine back and forth as many times as the first one and after that, only rotating them clockwise I have never had that problem again.
