On my 2004 it's VERY tight back there. I can just barely get halogen bulbs seated. In my opinion, when you're working on finagling a $100+ bulb in there it might be a wise step to remove the headlamps to avoid bashing the bulb into something. It's really not that difficult; a couple clips and three bolts per side. If you insist on doing it with them in-place, removing the battery and intake tube before the MAF might be helpful.
