Time-sert spark plug question

I'm about to change the plugs (with 35K, 3.5 years on them) and very nervous because my folks had issue with this right before I got the car from them. A crappy dealer they no longer visit cross threaded the plugs on one cylinder during the 60k service. That was detected by another good dealer a few thousand miles later when a number of things went wrong on the car. All plugs were changed by the good dealer and the only notes I have on the ticket are that the threads were retapped and repaired.
Seems like this could go badly for me changing plugs now or in the future, so I was going to buy a time-sert in case of any problems. The kit is about $150 vs. $25 for a Helicoil.
What size insert? It's supposed to equal the reach on the plug, which sparkplugs.com says is 19mm. However, the time-sert is either 16.8mm or 23.0mm. I'm tempted to go short.
For access, anyone know if I need the standard (P/N 4412) or deep hole version (P/N 4412E)? Deep hole is for 6" or more.
Thanks, Derek / '02 9-5 98k
