wagon tailgate shocks, OEM vs ScanTech

Picked up a 1999 SE(6) SW last week, and I need to replace the tailgate shocks.
OEM vs ScanTech, $65 vs $20 each.
I had to go searching for earlier thread, don't remember this being a common problem. My 2002 SW shocks were working fine (until bambi took me out two weeks ago).
I learned my lesson on ScanTech coolant bypass valves (vs. OEM), do I need a lesson on this part?
If my Aero SW needed this part, would probably spring for OEM, but I don't have quite the same feelings towards my SE.
Any other experiences?
thanks
Ed
