Instrument Panel/SID failure

My year 2000 9-5 wagon (5-speed manual) has 89.000 trouble-free miles, apart from an ignition casette failure in 2004, and a current problem with the rear door lock. I'm dealing with that one. The SID display has been half-gone (numbers missing---do you call that pixelated?) for several years, and we just put up with that.
But yesterday, returning from a ski trip, I noticed the SID display was blank---dark. Nada. I could get it to light up for a second by pushing one of the buttons, but then it would go dark again. At the same time, I noticed the instrument panel dials---tach, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge---were not working (they were earlier on the trip because I was checking the fuel gauge). The speedometer was OK.
Any ideas what's going on? I thought it might be a fuse, but then the SID wouldn't work at all, would it? Also, I checked the owner's manual and couldn't find any fuse listed for the instrument panel.
I would love to have some advice before I call the dealer about it. I've been taking it to the dealer for service ever since I bought it, but they recently dropped Saab (now do Subaru) and although they still have Saab-certified mechanics and promise to keep taking care of my car, they seem less and less interested.
Thanks for your help. I'm trying to hold on to this car as I really love it---my fourth Saab and by far the best. But my husband doesn't trust it, and it's getting harder and harder to defend with these little electrical problems cropping up. I'm just hoping this one isn't a big $$$ deal.
