No Ron, it's in super-slow, no-turbo-mode!
Just heard back from the Tech--they're replacing the catalyic converter--as soon as they get one in stock. The catalytic converter, as I understand, is connected to the DI cassette failure which happened on Saturday...Which is the first part of my two-part story:
1. Friday Morning: 2001 Saab Wagon in the shop for the complimentary 10K service.
2. Saturday Evening: my wife and I driving south on Interstate 5; we've been on the road for over an hour. We're trying to make it to the church on time--as we are about to preside as godparents. Car just dies. Check engine light flashing. Barely get the car off the freeway. Talk with OnStar, Saab roadside assistance, Saab of Santa Ana (nearest dealer), Saab of Sherman Oaks (where we bought it). We are resigned to the fact that we won't make it to the service.
OnStar Notes: They try to diagnose our problem but they can't do that on Saabs (kind of like the fact that OnStar can't unlock the doors either). Then OnStar sends the tow truck to their reference point: the cross streets immediately NEXT to the freeway, instead of to our actual location which is ON the freeway. We get a call from the tow truck telling us that he's in front of the liquor store at some cross streets, and where are we?!
We're towed to the nearest dealer, and are given a 2002 9-3 loaner--but must return it...
3. Monday morning @ 7am. Which my wife does. Saab of Santa Ana "fixes" the car by replacing the DI cassette. But, I suspect they don't test drive the vehicle--or perhaps something happens one hour later--when my wife calls to tell me that she's almost back home but that the car is really sluggish and the turbo doesn't seem to be working.
Which brings us to the second part: "No Turbo!" Saab currently in shop. Needs catalytic converter. Might have the part by today or tomorrow morning.
Three trips to two different Saab dealers in four days. Need wagon for 5-day camping trip up the coast tomorrow morning.
Not too confident.
