I examined the wiring diagram for the left-hand driver's seat for a 2005 9-5 (you should provide the year and model so we can help better).
On that MY there are two heating pads, one in the seat cushion and the other in the seat back. They are wired in series, so that an open circuit in either would cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
There are several components in the circuit for the left front seat heating pads. A voltmeter and a copy of the wiring diagram would be necessary to properly diagnose the cause of your problem.
If you email me and provide the model and year I can email you the wiring diagram and a short component list.
I recommend that you DO NOT REPLACE any components until you have diagnosed the actual cause of your problem. As one example, either one of the heating pads or the control could cause your problem; the heating pad replacement is a lot of work, the control replacement might take five minutes for a dyslexic person.
