Here's a quick recap of the big stuff. Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: difference 2004 Arc vs 9-5 Linear and Aero, Frank ![]() |
For the 2004 model year:
Linear
The Linear was only available as a wagon in 2004. It was the absolute base model with very few options installed. It had the 185hp LPT engine with the failure-prone Garrett GT-17 Turbo. I'm not sure about the suspension...
Arc
Available as a sedan or wagon, their equipment levels vary greatly based on which option packages were installed. All Arcs had a "FPT" Full Pressure turbo 2.3T engine (notice the big "T") that was good for 220 hp. The engine is mechanically identical to the Aero, having the larger, more durable Mitsubishi TD-04 turbo, and the brakes are upgraded to larger 308mm disks up front and larger vented rears.
Aero
Available as a sedan or wagon the Aero models were usually better equipped than the Arcs. I believe the H/K Prestige stereo was standard, as well as the heated auto dimming center and side rear-view mirrors, but other things like Xenon lights, etc. were not. The Aero has a "HOT" High Output Turbo cranking out 250hp. I believe the rear exhaust silencer is different from the Arc/Linear in that it is more free flowing, with notably more "burble" to it. The Aero has a very stiff, low suspension for great cornering but kind of a crashy ride. With the Aero you get fancy front and rear bumpers, 17" rims standard, sports steering wheel, and sports seats. You also get the big brakes the Arc has.
