Find the 4th piston.
But seriously, ladies and germs, turbocharging greatly increases forces on pistons; some of that downward impact on the crown of the piston, call it a vector, is diverted into secondary forces. Imagine a big arrow slamming down towards the crankshaft; smaller arrows, the secondary forces, go off at more or less right angles. Many of these secondary vectors can overcome the various centering counter-forces (piston ring tension, the fit of the wristpin, clearance between piston skirt and cylinder bore, oil film thickness on the bore walls, etc). The result is the slap you hear.
Apologies for being long-winded; oh yes, there will be a quiz!
