But for emphasis:
THE TIMING BELT ON THE 9-5s V6 IS A MUST DO EVERY 60K MILES! And it's not just the belt, you need to swap out the tensioner and pulleys.
The V6 pulls effortlessly with the auto trans. The power and torque are great (but no match for an Aero, or even a later 4 cyl Arc...), and it's sewing-machine smooth.
But the 4 will generally get you at least 4 MPG better than the V6. At least that's been my experience between my dearly departed 2002 Arc, and my 1999 LPT. The Arc got me maybe 27-28 MPG on a real good day, while the 4 cyl in the LPT gets me over 30 on highway drives.
I would own another V6 in a heartbeat, though.
