My 99 SE was having a stalling issue when coming to stop lights. I had replaced some vacuum lines and other factors that could have been contributing. I also changed the oil pressure switch for a brand new one I had in stock. Upon changing the sensor, now when I come to the same stops, as soon as I press the clutch in, the warning triangle dings and the oil lamp lights up. Sometimes the oil light lights up dimmly and flickers, but none the less indicating I have low oil and or low oil pressure. Well the oil was just changed and topped off, no low level and the light continues to come on only at stops. When the car is higher in RPMs the light never comes on, so its indicating I have low oil pressure at idle.
What is the easiest way to check the oil pressure when hot? If a mechanical gauge is used, I would have to remove the sending unit and take the starter out of the way... there has to be a better way? What should the pressure be? From other posts I gather that the sensor sends signal when pressure drops to 8-6PSI?
Other side notes are that the oil pan has been dropped and cleaned, screen cleaned, etc. You could eat off the inside of the pan its so clean. Only use Mobil 1 synth. Could it be the oil pump? Oil cooler is from the previous engine which failed due to sludge. Could there be too much build up in the hoses to the cooler? Trying to save this car. Bearings were replaced already, car drives great just has idle down issue and oil light at stops?????
Also appears that rear main seal is leaking oil. Pain in the A to get to... any suggestions on sneaking the tranny away from the motor for working room without dropping the whole sub-frame?
