Theft protection is a double edged sword

On many new cars, the theft protection is pretty good, but all it does is stop the kids from joyriding. If a pro wants your car, he'll get it.
As for ameteurs, they now know with "theft protection" systems they can't simply steal the car without the keys and they can't steal the keys without the owner. This has lead to a new class of crime almost unheard of a couple of decades ago - carjacking. This puts the owner at a much greater risk of death than a simple property crime should warrant.
Let 'em have the freaking car. That's what you have insurance for.
On the same subject, I notice that Saab no longer offers the "deadbolt" locking system. That appeared incredibly dangerous to me since you could lock someone inside the vehicle.
