My car is no show piece. I got it for free from its 3rd owner last year with a sludged up engine. I rebuilt the engine, and my wife's been driving it ever since. I'd say I have about $1000 in the car total, and that includes new tires! The engine and trans work great. The body is very presentable, but it has plenty of dings, and the hood/front bumper are very sandblasted from its 185k.
The interior is okay. The seats all show a little wear, but the driver's seat bottom is a disaster. It is shrunken, and unstitched. My wife complains that the seat bottom has actually ripped her clothes! the rest of the interior is okay, the carpet is a bit faded, but overall it looks okay.
I want to fix this seat as cheap as possible. I just had the driver seat bottom in our 01 suburban redone. That truck is really clean, so I didn't mind paying the $550 for it. I'd like to sell the 9-5 next year and get a newer/nicer car, so I just want a seat that doesn't wreck my wife's clothing, and looks a bit nicer to help with resale.
The problem with buying seats on the bay is the shipping. Most want to ship freight, which is $150, and you need a business address.
My buddy has a SAAB shop. He has a worn out 9-5 with a seat that is in better shape than mine. He wants $75 for it. I may go that route.
