"The 4 cylinder Saab engine ain't a Saab engine either, but a derivative of a design purchased from Ricardo Engineering of England in the late 60's."
Ironic actually since the V6 engine was designed by Ricardo (I worked there for 12 years) also at Opel's request. It was made to the narrowest angle that would survive durability (54° bank angle). The reason the Saab engine is only turboed on one bank is that the engine will grenade if any higher boost is applied. That V6 engine was replaced by the HFV6 (also engineered by Ricardo with GM) now found most GM products (including the new Aero as a turbo version). That engine however can take LOTS of boost (I helped develop it). Come to think of it the 2.0L engine (which is aa GM engine) was also developed by Ricardo....small world.
