Sorry Bjorn but I have to side with your wife on this one. My 05 95 is a joy to drive and I enjoy the miles I get to spend with it. It may not be as nimble as your A4, but I think it would be a better apples to apples comparison if you were to compare it to a comparably equipped 93ss. (Yes, I know you can't get a V6 in a 93, but you didn't say if the A4 has a turbo)
I've owned a couple of Audis and found them to be reasonably nice cars. But I left them in the late 90's when they were running dog slow engines, multiple electrical problems, suspension issues and constant trips to the shop. I'm sure that they have improved their quality since then, otherwise they wouldn't be making cars anymore but they haven't done anything to impress me enough to make me want to come back. (Except the R8 but let's be realistic here.)
The 05 was the last true Saab before GM really took over and ruined the 95 with its interventions. It still has a Saab interior, not the cheap Malibu interior that started with the 06 models.
I like the growl that the engine produces. It reminds me that along with enjoying the smooth ride the 95 provides there is still an engine under the hood that can satisfy the driving enthusiast in me that comes to the surface on weekends where I'm not stuck in downtown traffic.
I do agree that customer service is lacking thanks to GM's incompetent business models, but hopefully now that the wicked witch is dead, maybe some of the good service practices of the old Saab will come back.
