Rear shocks - DIY?

I'm in the need of front and rear struts/shocks for my 02 Aero SW auto, 90k. The issue for me is living in a small town limits my options and nearly every place here will not install my parts (I understand). But the parts markup is simply outrageous, let alone labor costs (again I understand). I'm leaning towards getting some Monroe sensatracs and installing the rears myself to alleviate some of the cost.
The write-up on fix my Saab looks quite straight forward but I'd love to hear some real world experience from anyone who has done it before. I've never used a spring compressor and the bottom shock bolt I'm sure will give me fits as it's on at what, 140+ lbs? I don't have a air tools but could get a nice long breaker bar. My issue with breaker bars is working with the car on jacks always limits my access with the bar (my GF's 2005 9-3 caliper bolts took me almost half a day to remove).
Any tips appreciated.
