Manual mode over-rev & fuel gauge weirdness-LONG

Wanted to post something interesting I hadn't seen before on the boards. Was driving my MapTun Stg 1+ 05 9-5 Aero on the highway, it was hot, so I put the car in manual mode to keep it in 4th and stop it from hunting. Of course got off the highway with the stereo blasting and forgot I was in manual mode. At some point, I bet I hit the rev limiter and noticed when I got to my office the fuel gauge read empty and light was on. My office is barely 1/4 mile from highway, with stop signs and a turn, so wasn't like I was hitting the rev limited for an extended period. Somewhat freaked out, I restarted the car a few times and no change. I left it alone, and when I restarted it after work, it still showed empty. I drove for a while and it started jumping back and forth from empty to full, which it was. This continued for a few miles, at which point it finally stayed at full, and has for a few days now. Don't think any real damage was done, the car is driving fine. Just a weird occurence I though I would share to see if it is a normal check procedure in ECU, trans unit, or what. Ever happen to anyone else?
