I believe the bolt you damaged is the large main (horizontal) bolt that anchors the lower end of the shock to the cast metal leg of the rear control arm. I think the arm is cast iron not aluminum.

It is critical for safety that you have a reliable bolt connection at this point since it is the place where all the weight of the car on that corner is supported. Some of the weight is born by the steel collar of the shock mount that engages the shallow larger recess machined into the arm that is concentric to the bolt hole. However, you MUST be certain that bolt holds the shock tight to the arm without any compromise.

If you drill and tap the cast iron arm hole to a larger size, that will mean the new bolt would be larger in diameter than the center sleeve hole of the shock.

Have the damage to the threaded hole very carefully inspected to see how much damage has been done to those threads. I think the threaded hole passes all the way through the casting so you may be able to run the correct tap through from the outside and clean up the initial damaged threads toward the inside of the hole. There's quite a depth of threads there I recall so a brand new lower bolt may then work.

I just worked on my car in that very area and I know one must be careful to line up that particular bolt. I have always cleaned a lubed the threads and turned in that bolt without the shock in place to ensure the threading starts easily and can go in by hand quite a few turns. Then with he shock in held in the correct orinetation, I'll make sure I have engaged the bolt threads and turn them in a ways before wrenching.

If you have too many damaged threads in the control arm, you may be faced with replacing it.
