Maybe excess vacuum to valve, maybe nothing wrong Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Well I'm stumped., B Millar ![]() ![]() |
The BPV responds to engine vacuum as the signal to open the valve and relief excess boost pressure. The driving conditions you described, low throttle easy acceleration, describe the conditions when intake vacuum is at its maximum. No surpise the valve is opening then, the question is Why?
A split hose would normally cause loss of vacuum and prevent the valve from opening when it should. It may be possilbe that a problem has occurred with the boost control valve, the three port valve clipped to the top side of the turbo inlet pipe. Maybe it is not decreasing the intake vacuum signal in the proper ration to engine speed, resulting in full vacuum at engine speeds where some reduction is normal.
My WIS is at home, but there are signal schematics in the WIS describing how the vacuum level to the BPV is altered and controled between the intake manifold and the valve itself.
Or maybe it was just a temporary fluke of atmospheric conditions, driving style, and engine algorithm resetting.
