2002, 95-Arc, 3.0lt, 80K miles
Hi:
Need a little help. Couple of days back after driving for 3-4 miles I parked the car and as soon as turned the engine off, heard whole lot of liquid leaking under the car with a bit steaming. Looked like coolant was leaking and was steaming due to contact with hot surface.
I suspected its the coolant bypass valve as I have had this issue about 4-5 years back. This time I decided to go to a local shop rather than dealer. Mechanic pressure tested the system and showed me the part that was leaking. I am sure its the coolant bypass valve but he kept insisting that its Heater control valve. Are they different or one and the same ?
Anyway, he said, the enitre assembly will cost $1100 to replace ($700 for the part with hoses etc.). Which is absurd. I had the valve replaced at the dealers for little over $300 last time. The valve itself is available online for $80 (without hoses) and $400 (with hoses). I don't think hoses are needed as mechanic insisted that it was the valve that was leaking.
What do you think ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible for me to replace the part by myself, if I had the appropriate tools ? Are there any picutres available from someone who has done it ?
Thanks
