If you pull the bulb back out you will notice it has a flat side with a notch on the base. The notch points straight DOWN when it's installed correctly in the housing. On a 2004 the lenses are clear (unless yours are badly hazed up) so you can look straight into the lens as you're guiding the bulb into place. Once it's in place the wire clip will fold down on it easily and clip into its tab.

Note: This is a picture from when I retrofitted Xenon bulbs into my 2004 9-5 that came with Halogen headlights. They install as if they are regular H7 lamps, so just ignore the blue and red wires.
