Get an itemization of the quote(s). Parts probably are costly, but that's looking like a very w-i-d-e range for labor. It should be a "book rate" job. The clutch is probably $500 and up for the parts (at the shop's price, not an online discounter's), and $100 an hour gets you between 10 and 20 hours to do the job. I'd think a shop that works on Saabs would have a defined price for that labor.
Of course, since one does need to take a bunch of other stuff apart, other things can go wrong, or be found bad along the way, and that'll cost you more.
Look on TSN for recommended mechanics in your area, and also ask for a quote at a Saab dealer. It may be pricy, but it may not...
