The key needs a chip. There are three kinds of keys and chips. The one with the guts is the kind where the remote and key are one pice. In this case the chip is in the key guts.
The other two types are keys with chips, but the remote is seperate and commonly reffered to as banana type remotes. If you get a key with a hollow head that has room for guts and pushbuttons, then you will need the guts for that key to start the car. If you get a key with half the black part missing then you will need that style of chip and a banana remote.
