good news!
remember in my original post that it's a little struggle getting the pin all the way through the other side enough to get the crclip (c-clip) on. of course the cable socket has to also be held there while you bang the pin through. hopefully you already got the pin all the way through.
re shifter not moving. maybe there is something obstructing it's movement. the coil lockout is for getting out of P. the handle release is for getting from gear to gear but you got hat covered. there ARE some small plastic parts in there that I was afraid I might break. hopefully, nothing has broken and is jamming you. the shifter without the cable attached should move very freely with the release pulled up. make sure the release is actually still working. you can see it raise up above the "stop steps" below. good luck!
I do have a spare shifter assembly in the attic if I need to pull it down to help this weekend.
