Not that I've ever dropped the pan, but doesn't sound too easy.
I have changed a 2.3t turbocharger.
In researching that procedure, I found frequent references to NOT reusing the oil supply line because they sometime gunk up.
IF I want to ASSUME that engine sludge and oil-line gunking are two symptoms of the same problem, then checking one is the same as the other.
The lower connection point of the oil line is easy to get to, if you remove the oil filter. I don't think that you'd have to remove the entire line, just inspect that end once you've pulled the banjo bolt.
This would have to take a small fraction of the time to drop the pan, no concerns about resealing the pan, worse you're out is a pair of washers for the banjo bolt.
