I recently had a bout with my 3.0L V6 overheating, either resulting from or causing a headgasket failure and/or warped head. #4 cyl was squirting water and there were other unidentified leaks, such as an oil bath on the exterior of #2 sparkplug. With not much left to lose on the 1999 9-5 with 150K, I tried a bottle of K&M nanotech block sealer. There are mixed results published all over the internet, but the success seemed to come from longer term use and otherwise following the directions. (one said to drive 500 miles with it.)
After flushing the system, I installed the sealer and took out the #4 plug. After an idle for 40 minutes, the water from #4 had stopped. But when the motor was turned off, it boiled over from the #2 spark plug abyss. Replaced #4 plug, refilled water, and idled for another 2 hours. No overheating, no leaks, no CEL. Cooled, refilled the coolant overflow, changed oil, and idled another 2 hours. Flushed and drained the cooling system and let it dry for 12 hours. Coolant refilled and it’s running with no ill effects except a misfire.
Replaced the DIC and all is well.
WARNING: running without a spark plug with the DIC in place will end up destroying your DIC. I fastened the cassette down completely, and the cylinder compression caused the plastic housing to explode. It still worked for awhile but eventually caused rough running with a P0304 misfires on #4.
All in all, this motor’s life extension was less than $200. I’ll keep you posted on its reliability. Has anyone else tried this stuff?
