I had an oil pressure problem; the gadget that keeps it up, failed.
I probably threw a rod in one of the cyl.
I am assuming from what you said that the oil pressure is a necessary part of the health of the turbo charger. Would damage to it, by oil pressure being down, account for my symptoms -- ie.: the smoke occurs in a fashion where cool/cold weather [for Louisiana] makes the smoke heavy on start up, and as the outdoor air temp rises, there is less smoke, for shorter amount of times? Again: ie., smoke disappears, more or less, when the engine heats up.
Would not taking account of possible damage to the Turbo [and perhaps not using the donor's] be a sophomoric mistake for the mechanic? I don't remember if the donor engine arrived with its own turbo.
How can I identify/localize the smoke to an artifact of damage to the turbo?
During the month it took the mechanic to get the engine and make the repair, I now remember something about the way something attached to the [intake?] manifold differently on the donor manifold, so that he just swapped that manifold and the things hanging on it, from my orig. engine, to the donor. This, instead of using the donor manifold, and moving my old hanging parts on to it.
