IF YOU can get a voltmeter, put it on the battery. with the engine running you should get 13.5 to 14 volts.
With engine off and fully charged battery 12.5 to 13.
Batteries are very delicate and if discharged for a long time my not come back. A battery load tester is a great idea too.
this sound like battery. Many many alternators are replaced that are perfectly good because of faulty troubleshooting. VERY rare that you have to replace both at the same time.
