I have a 99 9-5 2.3l, and was house hunting with it--A little background on my car: The last few years my head gasket as been leaking oil but I've kept up with oil changes and have my INDY retourque the bolts once a year or so. Just had it out by him a few weeks ago and he was telling me that he's not sure how much longer these band-aid approaches will last. He also asked me if I ever had my turbo replaced--I never did it but I bought the car with 60K, and now it has 173K. He said watch out for white or blue smoke. SO, yesterday (June 9th) while I was going up and down side streets (averaging 15 mph or so), I stumbled on a place that I liked and wanted to stop at. (I was running my car like this for roughly 45 minutes.) All of a sudden I thought I was in that Stephen King movie, The Fog. Pluming smoke from out the exhaust--didn't know what to do--so, I reversed the car and drove around the corner and stopped again, and the same thing happened. This has never occured before. I then just drove off and for about a half a block, white smoke out the back, then drove it home without any smoke and parked it in the garage where it rests. The engine was very hot, but I decided to re-start it anyways, and no smoke. I did notice a sharper "knicking" sound coming from the engine, and it was very hot. My engine temp gauge was normal, but I did receive a warning message, but I couldn't read it because my electronic display is messed up--I cant read outside temps or know what radio station is on, or read error messages. While I drive it back home, the engine was sluggish, but still was able to get up to speed. Any ideas/suggestions as to what may have happened? I don't want to drive it in fears it may further damage the engine.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks,
Brett
