Maybe Hirsch meant to say the 2006 9-5 Aero engines are more powerful in horsepower alone, since there's no increase in torque??? Hirsch says "the 2006 have stronger engines". Not true, they are weak due to the fiasco of "litening" the engine assembly" compared to the basically the same but more heavy duty 9000 Aero engines. The 2000 model 9-5 Aero for instance has 230 horsepower, and the 2006 9-5 Aero has 260 horsepower, not a huge difference, and the torque numbers are still the same 258 toque on both cars. You probably know this, but for $300 you can get a stage one software tuner increase that'll easily/safely add 40 horsepower and also 40 torque to your car without any hardware upgrades. And as we know, unless we're on a racetrack, torque makes us accelerate giving that "push", while horsepower lets us continue that torque to the higher rpm region of the engines capabilities, where torque declines and just horsepower remains until redline. For all around driving whether to the supermarket or entering an on-ramp to the highway, torque gets the job done. If you are racing long streches, then horsepower becomes an issue as one needs to sustain power over a long length of time. Autoban anyone?
