You will need to unbolt the 3 ball joint bolts on the control arm, the tie rod end and the upper end of the sway bar drop link, no spring compressor needed, leave the strut bolted at the top.
If the hub nut is already gone, pull the hub away from the axle, you may need to tap it with a mallet to drive the shaft from the hub.
Once it's out. swing the strut to one side, I used a piece of wood to brace it out of the way so I could get a good straight grip on the axle.
Push the axle all the way in, and then give it a hard sharp pull, it should pop out, if not, do it again until it's free.
Drivers side will leak fluid when the axle is removed, not so on the passenger side.
