Good for you, Hal. One of my neighbors... Posted by Scott Paterson [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: No Sale, Hal, Tue, 16 Apr 2002 01:12:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my cul-de-sac, a son was living/taking care of his elderly mother. When she passed away, he was going to move back up to his house in Oregon. He sold his mother's house at the height of the real estate market here in California/Silicon Valley. It's a 3/2 corner lot, so the lot is bigger than most and a bigger house could be built on it. The top offer was $850,000 by two real estate guys who were going to immediately level the place and build a big brand new house. The second offer was from a young couple who were going to have a baby and had no plans to tear down the house. Even though the second offer was a full $100K less, he went with the family that was planning on raising a family in his mom's house.
Was it a bad financial decision? I doubt it. He was one of the original Atari employees, so I don't think it mattered that much to him, especially living in rural Oregon. Sometimes, you gotta go with what feels right.
