Haldex systems are based on a center automatic clutch system, they don't have a center diff. It is possible with the newest designs to offer a wider power range distribution using a Haldex system, but... when now wheel slips you're driving a FWD car. Volvo uses a Haldex system which has a rear bias torque split on a FWD car, you need to do this if you wish to send more then 50% of the power to the rear wheels.

When you drive a car fast, Haldex is clearly inferior to a real AWD setup... but for traction its very good, and Haldex is better then FWD.

Main problems are destroyed halfshafts on all Haldex setups as there is no center diff. you drive too wild... halfshafts will get into trouble.

I have no idea why SAAB would waste time and money on a Haldex system when GM/FIAT has a number of 3 diff. systems that are very good, proven and easy to manufacture... and they might only cost $500.- more for a real AWD system.

But anyways... sure enough if Haldex AWD is available on the next SAABs... I would order such an option.

Regards,
Coolknight

P.S. AWD is 3 Diffs. at least 2 having limited slip properties... the rest would be wanabe AWD.
