Will finally replace my water pump Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
After 10-1/2 years and nearly 282,000 miles I am planning on proactively replacing my water pump on Monday. I have a vacation day, the wife is in a day long meeting, and my youngest son will be here to help with the job and/or provide a vehicle for emergency parts run(s).
I also intend to replace the lower radiator hose at the same time. Is there enough room with the turbo inlet and water pump removed, and power steering pump pushed aside to access the radiator side hose clamp? Or should I plan on removing the fan shroud too?
What is Gleitmo 805 which is instructed to be used as an O-ring lubricant? Standard white grease or something special?
Same question for Kontakt 61 contact cleaner to be used to clean connectors. Is WD-40 or PB Blast an equivalent? Brake Cleaner? I can't imagine they are recommending use of electrical contact cleaner.
I've had all the parts for 4 years (I guess having everything on hand is a talisman against pump failure!) and have a new Coolant By-Pass valve too, so I guess C should replace the CB-P valve I installed in June of '07 while I'm at it.
Thanks,
