Drove a 9-3 SportCombi 2.0t Today... Very Nice

On a whim, but considering my 9-5 SE V6 is a 1999 model, I test drove a used 2006 9-3 SportCombi 2.0t with 5 speed manual transmission today.
I was very pleasantly surprised. The 2 liter 210HP engine moved the Combi along very smartly. I learned that I'd be more than happy with the power of the 2.0t and can avoid the 2.8 V6 turbo in the Aero model. I say avoid, because the Aero brings with it a firmer ride and I was quite happy with the handling and ride of this lesser model. A firmer ride is a real compromise on our rough roads. To me this car even had a nicer ride than my 1999 SE V6 even though I have stock springs with Koni FSD shocks!
This 9-3 model had the red tail lights not the white frosted ones I've seen in some photos. I very much dislike clear or white tail light lenses, so the red was great. It also had a lovely light (parchment?) leather interior which contrasted beautifully against the darker (Titan grey?) exterior. All in all, this rather unique (in Winnipeg) SportCombi in the colors it had looked very attractive.
Soooooo, when I really get serious about a newer vehicle, this model will be on my short list. Hopefully by then Saab will have some representation here. ONLY negative might be the smallish rear seat leg room. Probably a 2007 model though if I could find a nice one. I prefer the looks to the 2008. I'd even go to the USA to get one I think.
Stayin' on this BB for now!
