nasty knock ...a bit long

I have a 1999 95 that I purchased and was hoping to get running ok again. Seems as though it was sludged, not by oil sludge but the balance chain guide that was chewed up into bits and clogged the oil pickup. Looks like the balance chain was removed. I thought it only ruined the turbo, so I switched out the turbo and drove it a bit without knowing about the oil clog. When the knock got louder I replaced the main and rod bearings with standard size and cleaned out all the plastic I could find. Journals seemed ok. Got it back together and didnt hear any improvement. The clacking noise seems to be coming from the transmission under side around the oil pan. Drives ok, but boy that clacking is loud. I dont think it increases loudness as I rev but does get faster. I'm thinking it will need a rebuild, possibly the oil passages are clogged somewhere and not allowing oil to the drivers side bearings? Should I junk the car? Any thoughts? Thanks!! -Jeremy
