ABS, alternator, both, neither? Posted by bobc [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Driving home today I got the "christmas tree" of dashboard lights that usually means a bad ABS module. Out of curiosity, I turned off the car wondering if a "reboot" would get the ABS back on line (at a stop light). When I tried to start it up, it just clicked as if a dead battery.
after a few minutes I tried again and it barely cranked to a start. On my way home the "christmas tree" of lights would go on ... then later off ... later on again.
the battery is 4 months old, interstate. Alternator is original.
seems clear that the alternator is on its way out ... how else could the battery drain while driving? although I did not have the charging light on. Am I right about that?
Im wondering if the low battery would cause the ABS symptom, or if I am just lucky to have two systems fail at once.
thoughts? advice?
