Re: 3.0L Timing Belt again? 1999 9-5 Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: 3.0L Timing Belt again? 1999 9-5, Saabs-Waddle ![]() |
Well, you keep all 3 pulleys loose hanging and hook the belt up using the three lines on belt corresponding with the sprocket marks.
Then you move the lower idler into approx position and tighten the bolt. Next the middle idler into its position and tighten the bolt and last the tensioner pulley so that the two hash marks line up.
Then you rotate the engine by hand 3-4 full revolutions and set the crank to TDC and first check the 3-4 sprockets using the gauge (or marks on backing plate) and using the lower idler to adjust. You might have to rotate the engine a couple of times and always clockwise, never back up the engine. When 3-4 is lined up, you rotate the engine again several turns and check alignment of 1-2 using the middle idler to adjust.
And then you set the tensioner to about right and hook up the air mass meter and start the engine and look at the tensioner that it is about right.
Make sure you have done the final tightening of all bolts before starting the engine.
