I kinda' doubt that there's a sealing issue with the timing cover, since the sealant used on the timing cover works well.
The crank seal's pretty easy to change out, and not hugely expensive. To get the crank pulley off, you'll need a 27mm socket, and I find that the job goes a whole lot easier with an impact wrench to get the bolt off. The crank pulley itself may take some wiggling to get off.
Once the is pulley off, you'll be able to see whether it's leaking from the seal. To change the seal, gently pull it out (I've used a cotter pin removal tool), press in the new seal (I've used a small scrap of 2x4 and a hammer to tap it in), reassemble and see how it goes from there.
