Well, uneven tire wear will cause the symptoms you described. Does the pitch change when the pavement changes (over a bridge, etc.)?
A common problem on our cars seems to be the tire cupping. The (non-Saab) "experts" I've spoken with point to a soft suspension, and the negative camber called for on the rear tires. On mine, you could see the inside blocks wearing unevenly after 10,000 miles on my Pirelli 7000 SS 225-45-17's in the rear.
There is a bulletin for wind noise...perhaps that is the "hissing sound"...the tires will make more of a "growling" noise. I had the wind noise warranty work done a few months ago, as it sounded like it was coming from the front mirror area.
As for the tires I got, they are the same Pirellis. The dealer would only replace them with what was on there. My next set will probably be the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 or Dunlop SP9000's, as they seem to be the popular choice for noise and performance.
Also, in a couple months, I will be upgrading my suspension to the Eibach/Bilstien Sport combo to try to get on par with the Aeros...
