Hi All,
I am experiencing two problems with my 2000, 2.3LPT ~105k miles (auto trans)that I think may be related. The first is a hunting or "loping" rough idle when the car is stopped and the transmission is in "Drive". The problem is worse with the AC on and goes away completely when the car is in park or neutral. It seems to happen more in hot weather and when the engine is fully warm.

The second problem is a stumble or miss at freeway speeds ~65-75 mph but can be felt at lower speeds also. It is not a violent miss or stumble, but is obvious enough to get your attention.

Some background: I recently replaced my Evap Purge Valve after having intermittent PO455 error codes. I did the PCV #6 breather upgrade and replaced a bad (open) PCV check valve.

After the purge valve and breather job, the car idled smoother then it has in a long time (in park). It has good power and accelerates well. I have replaced the spark plugs but it is due for air and fuel filters. Overall, it runs well and gets good gas mileage (~32MPG fwy) ~24MPG mixed driving.

Another note. A while back (before upgrade, etc.) my wife was doing stop and go driving on a hot day and the car went into LHM. I reset and cleaned the TB and it has not produced any new error codes or gone into LHM since. I have done a visual check of vacuum hoses but have not tested for leaks using a volatile spray.

It seems like some sort of control loop problem. Aside from replacing the throttle body or the mass air flow sensor, are there any obvious checks or test that I can do?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Will
