I got my 9-5 Aero back from the shop. My initial complaints were:
1- No boost to red, mid yellow only
2- Engine working very very hard to get car moving
3- Zero passing power no blow off valve sound
4- Engine sounds harsh, runs uneven, MPG low
5- Lifters clicking
6- Oil pump whining
My indy pulled return hose from turbo and noticed hoses were sluged up. He then pulled the pan and noticed more sluge and a partially obstructed pickup. 2003 Aero has 145K miles on the odo. I took ownership at 65K and religiously changed with full synth 0-40 M1 at 3-4K intervals.
He cleaned out as much as he could, thoroughly cleaned pickup, replaced pickup O rings and resealed the pan.
The difference in the way the car runs is absolutely unbelievable! It runs like it did at 60K, idles quietly, when I need to pass the turbo kicks and pulls. When I take my foot off the gas it actually rolls freely instead of feeling constricted and losing mph's per second. My gas mileage also went through the roof!!!! I haven't seen the 30's even while coasting on highway. The engine bay is quiet, lifter chatter gone and it doesn't sound like it's about to eat itself.
My indy charged me 2.5 labor hours for the pan and 1.5 to diag turbo and something something related to pan. So 4 total. Put in new plugs (was running 7's, put in stock 6's) and new oil of course...
I could not stop grinning all the way home last night. I pressed the accelerator on an empty stretch at 60mph, the turbo spooled up, 80, 85, 90, 95...effortless, smooth and quiet.. and the car has 145K on it!
Now to the question of why was my car sludged up with religious synth oil changes ever 3K? Was this a problem I inherited from the previous owner 80K miles ago? I noticed the car started showing the above symptoms about 15K ago... so I was fine for 60K after purchase and during that period it was babied!
